Stories: Jade

There are a lot of stories told by collosphinxes about the ones that lived before. This one has been used in parts many times in human stories too. Not all of it is known, but what IS known is right here:

... She ran through the trees, once her home, now reaching out to tear her apart. How could I have been so stupid? she thought as tears streamed down her face. Jade was normally fast, but the betrayal had drained her powers, although that could have been caused by the spell she had just cast.
Jade could hear the angry townspeople close behind. She was grateful for the fact it was night. The dark of the night and woods and the noise the town was making searching for her made it easier to run without them locating her. She couldn't keep it up, though. She was fading fast.
If only he had not have been so strong she glowered at the thought of the attack. Maybe then I could have defeated him without revealing my powers. Now they think I'm a witch!
Suddenly, she felt a hand grab her and pull her up into a tree. Her scream was stifled by another hand covering her mouth.
"It's all right. It's just me." Her sister! "We've got to get out of here. They'll find you before long."
Much as she hated to, Jade had to agree with Ammarice. There was no way she could ever be accepted here again...

That's as far as the known story goes, but there are some story fragments that may be part of this story, the stories of Retallia and Sarabeth among them.

Collojinxes

Now is the time to tell you about the evil side of collosphinxes: collojinxes. A collojinx is quite simply an evil collosphinx. They have differences from normal collosphinxes, though. A collojinx could be another type of collosphinx: a Spider Collosphinx. The spiders are closer to a spider version of the part human-part horse centaurs. I won't really go into the details, but you'll know one if you are ever unfortunate enough to see one.

All collosphinxes come from either the spirit or demon domain, and the ones from the demon domain are evil. The domains determine, with the help of the essences, what powers a collosphinx has. Another difference: While not all are Spiders, they all have powers from the Demon Domain instead of the Spirit Domain. The domains are like the essences, but more of them. There are light, dark, love, hate, good, and evil domains, to name a few. Each collosphinx has powers from two of the domains as well as one of the essences. None have from the Good, Evil, Love or Hate domains, as those are reserved for the Angels, but I won't go into that now. Collojinxes tend to have darker powers and will actually switch from darker to lighter if they become good. It also works the other way around, if they become evil: they develop darker powers and switch to the demon domain. The business of domains is very complex, I must say.

Collojinxes often appear more powerful than collosphinxes, but aren't always. The appearance of power is actually their lack of compassion, humility, and restraint. The appear more powerful because they are more inclined to use their power. If it was between a collojinx and a collosphinx who had nothing to lose and everything to gain, it would be actually more likely that the collosphinx would win. They're powers are equal, it just depends on what drives them to use them.

Common Collosphines

There are four types of collosphinx: cat, dog, bird, and snake. I mentioned in the first blog that the cat ones have cat ears and tail. Dogs are the same, but with a dog's ears and tail. The bird and snake ones have feathers or scales on the back of their arms. Sometimes a snake collosphinx will have a forked tougne.

Each collosphinx has special powers that aren't widely spread. Unfortunately, this is partially due to the fact that there aren't many left. They have a power that comes from one of the four essences: fire, water, air, and earth. Some produce balls of what their essence is, high winds in the case of air, which can be made into superballs if combined properly. Other times they can control their essence with their minds. This is far less common than the balls, due to the superior magic involved.

Collosphinxes will also have a talent in one of the arts. Things like dancing or singing or acting, or the type of thing you would find in an art museum are usual.

One thing that it is important to know when dealing with collosphinxes is NEVER annoy them too much. They have a number of ways to cause pain. The one that all collosphinxes have is the Murderous Stare. Basically, if they get mad enough, they can look at you with so much hate that it can burn, shoot daggers at, and/or paralyze the annoyance. They don't usually, unless they're collojinxes (evil collosphinxes). Be careful anyway.

What are Collosphinxes?

Collosphinxes are human-like creatures. In their natural form, they look very much like humans, but they have some animal characteristics. The most common is the Cat Collosphinx. It, or I should say SHE, males don't do well as collosphinxes, has the ears and tail of a cat, but otherwise looks human. They can change their appearance at will, usually into the human or cat she looks like.

The creation of a collosphinx is peculiar. You are almost never born one. First you need to know that living creatures, not including plants, just animals, have a soul and a spirit. In most cases, when you die, your soul goes to heaven or hell while your spirit lingers in the air, causing the wind. There are special cases where you're soul and/or spirit is trapped in your body after you die or they meld together and are bound to earth as ghosts. Now, a collosphinx is formed when an extra spirit enters a living body.

Common powers are mind reading, mind control, and body control. The first two are accomplished through eye contact. They are skilled at other magic and are often thought to do anything. However, their power is limited. Things such as bringing people back from the dead are almost impossible because of how much power it takes.
